Terms of Use
Aura Migraine Diary · Effective 10 September 2026
1. This agreement
These terms govern your use of Aura, an iPhone app published by William Scott (“the developer”). Downloading or using the app means accepting them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.
2. Not medical advice, not a medical device
Aura is a diary. It is not a medical device, it does not diagnose anything, and it does not give medical advice. The developer is not a clinician. Nothing the app displays is a clinical assessment of you, and no doctor-patient relationship is created by using it.
Aura records what you tell it and reports patterns in what you recorded. It does not diagnose migraine or any other condition, does not distinguish migraine from any other kind of headache, gives no guidance about medicines or doses, and is not a substitute for a clinician. Nothing in it should ever be a reason to start, stop or change a treatment.
The pattern analysis reports association, not causation. A finding that “attack days went with less sleep” means those two things appeared together in what you wrote down. It does not mean sleep caused your migraines, that the factor is your trigger, or that changing it will change anything. Correlations in a self-reported diary can arise from coincidence, from recall, from a third cause affecting both, and from the way an attack itself changes the day around it. Take a finding to your clinician as an observation, not a conclusion.
One figure in the app is drawn from outside your diary: the count of days with acute medication is shown against the threshold clinical guidance commonly cites for a month. Aura reports that such guidance exists and that the figure may be worth raising at an appointment. It is not a limit set for you, not an instruction, and not a judgement about your treatment.
3. Emergencies
Aura is not for use in an emergency. Some headaches need urgent attention rather than a diary entry: one that reaches full intensity within about a minute or is the worst you have ever had; one with fever, a stiff neck or a rash; one after a head injury; one with confusion, seizure, fainting, weakness, loss of vision or difficulty speaking that does not settle as your usual aura does; a first severe headache after 50; or a headache in pregnancy with swelling or visual changes. Contact your emergency number or urgent care. Do not open an app.
That list is general published safety information reproduced for convenience. It is not advice about your circumstances, it is not exhaustive, and it does not replace contacting a clinician about anything that worries you.
4. Licence
You get a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use Aura on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not sell, rent, sublicense, redistribute or reverse-engineer the app except where that restriction is prohibited by law.
5. What is free, and what Aura Pro adds
Aura is free to download, and recording is free without limit: logging an attack, ending one, adding a dose and filling in a check-in are never gated behind a payment, and never will be. Free also includes the last 30 days of history, the widgets, the reminders and one appointment report.
Aura Pro is an auto-renewing subscription that adds your full history back to your first entry, the pattern analysis across all seven check-in factors, and an unlimited number of reports over 30 days, 90 days or six months.
Entries made while subscribed are never hidden permanently or deleted if a subscription lapses. Older history goes out of view and comes back if you subscribe again; nothing in your diary is removed by the end of a subscription.
6. Subscription terms
Aura Pro is offered as a yearly plan and a monthly plan. Both are the same tier; only the billing interval differs. The current price, the billing period and any introductory offer are shown in the app on the same screen as the purchase button, in your local currency, and are charged to your Apple Account on confirmation.
Prices vary by App Store storefront and are set by Apple's price tiers. The price shown in the app for your storefront is the price that applies.
7. Free trial
A plan may include a free trial for Apple Accounts that have not already used one. Where a trial applies, its exact length is stated in the app before you buy. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, it converts to a paid subscription automatically and your Apple Account is charged. Cancelling during the trial costs nothing. Any unused portion of a trial is forfeited if you buy a subscription before it ends.
8. Renewal and cancellation
Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours of the period ending, at the then-current price for your storefront.
Cancel through Apple, not through this app: Settings › your name › Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next charge; you keep Pro until the period you have already paid for ends. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
9. Refunds
Apple sells the subscription and handles all refunds. The developer cannot issue one. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Statutory rights of withdrawal, where they apply to you, are unaffected.
10. Price changes
Prices may change. Apple notifies existing subscribers of an increase and, depending on your region, either asks you to agree to it or lets you cancel before it applies. An increase never takes effect on a period you have already paid for.
11. Accuracy and your responsibility
Everything Aura shows is derived from what you typed. An attack logged on the wrong day, a severity chosen while you could barely look at the screen, a check-in filled in from memory a week later, or a stretch of days left blank will all produce a wrong answer, and the app cannot detect any of it. Findings drawn from a small number of days are weak evidence even when the arithmetic is right, which is why Aura always shows you how many days each one rests on.
Reminders depend on iOS delivering notifications, which can be delayed, silenced by Focus modes, or dropped when the system is under pressure. Do not rely on Aura as your only reminder for anything that matters, and never as a reminder to take medication — it does not offer one, and it must not be used as one.
This device holds the only copy of your diary. Keeping a backup — an export, or an iPhone or iCloud backup — is your responsibility, and the developer cannot recover data that has been lost.
12. Acceptable use
Use the app lawfully. Do not attempt to circumvent the paid tier or tamper with receipt validation. Do not present Aura's output as a clinical assessment to anyone, and do not use it to make decisions about another person's care.
13. Your data
Everything you enter stays on your device. The developer neither receives nor stores it, and cannot recover it for you. Deleting the app deletes your diary permanently. Export from Settings if you want a copy. See the privacy policy.
14. Availability
The app is provided as-is and may be updated, changed or withdrawn. Features may be added or removed. Compatibility with future versions of iOS is not guaranteed, though it is intended.
15. Intellectual property
Aura, its name, icon, design and code remain the property of the developer. Your diary is yours; nothing in these terms gives the developer any claim over it.
16. No warranty
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the app is provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of any calculation or finding, and uninterrupted or error-free operation. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
17. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from your use of Aura. That includes, but is not limited to: any health outcome; any decision taken or not taken on the basis of something the app displayed, including a pattern it reported or failed to report; a treatment started, stopped or changed; a missed or delayed diagnosis; a reminder that did not arrive; an attack that was not recorded; and lost or corrupted diary data.
Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, nothing here affects your statutory rights.
18. Apple's role
This agreement is between you and the developer, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for Aura or its content. The developer alone is responsible for maintaining and supporting the app; Apple has no obligation to provide either. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever.
The developer, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claim relating to the app or your use of it, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar law. If a third party claims that the app, or your possession or use of it, infringes their intellectual property rights, the developer, not Apple, is solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.
You must comply with any third-party terms that apply when you use the app, such as your mobile carrier's. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
19. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer-law provisions of the country you live in, and you may bring proceedings there.
20. Changes to these terms
These terms may change. The date at the top of the page changes with them, and the previous wording stays in the public history of the repository that hosts this page. Continuing to use the app after a change means accepting it; if you do not, cancel and delete the app.
21. Entire agreement and severability
These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and the developer about Aura. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
